British Onion crop
The U.K. is both our base and origin of the company. We work
with a small group of 11 onion growers on a programmed basis,
producing Brown and Red Onions, shallots and echalions for
season long supply.
The best soils throughout
Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk are selected 6 months in
advance of planting to ensure the high quality requirements of
customers can be met.
New varieties of directly planted
seeds and sets are constantly trialled and reviewed to produce
the longest season offer possible in the most cost effective
way.
A range of storage facilities have been developed
over the years ranging from low cost bulk ambient, to state of
the art box refrigerated stores for a full season supply.
UK Onion harvesting
We are not traders and instead work hard with growers in
both the UK and round the world, with which we have long
standing relationships to produce products with a known outlet
before the first seed is sown.
At the same time we
strive to provide flexibility for growers and customers to
enable ever changing requirements to be met.
Preparation
of onions for sale by size grading and defect removal is carried
out either on-farm, by the customer where desired or by Mason
Brothers located near Boston in south Lincolnshire. Mason
Brothers also transport most of our product in the UK from farm
to customer and via their grading facilities.
