Interveg in Argentina works with dedicated
organic growers specialising in onions and butternut squash. The
huge areas of land which have never been cultivated in the provinces
of Buenos Aries and Mendoza combined with their isolation provide an
excellent opportunity for conversion to organic production.
Relatively low production costs provide cost effective supply
solution from March to July for both Brown and Red organic onions.
Traditional production of conventionally grown onions in
Argentina is for export supply to the huge market in Brazil, which
prefers smaller sizes.
The larger sizes from the
crop are used by us for specific periods of the season as a low cost
alternative to Chile for immediate us upon arrival in May and June.
